Our urgent needs right now are for adult road bikes, bike locks, and bike lights.
hey everyone,
in addition to working this sunday, the 17th, some volunteers have decided to open the shop on wednesday evening, the 13th, from 6-9pm. this is intended to be a more relaxed session for volunteers to come hang out, work on whatever they want including their own bikes, and enjoy each other's company. wednesday nights may become permanent but for right now we'll just decide week by week. the long awaited trip to yanceyville is set for sept. 23 & 24. here are adrian's notes. sounds like we'll miss most of the hoedown but if you've been wanting visit gilbert and sue's new shop here's you chance. |
75 miles, bring sleeping bags and therma-rests
i'll bring some tube tents
route tested last weekend. Cue & Maps
the last-chance ATM is in Durham, then there's a 24-mile stretch with
no services, but little traffic.
sounds like there'll be plenty of food and beer available, though
healthy vegan options may be a challenge.
it took me about 6-7 hours to cover the 74-miles, including lunch.
think y'all can make it?
September 23 & 24, 2006 in Yanceyville
Every September over 30,000 people come to the Historic Town Square in Yanceyville for the Brightleaf Hoedown. Bring the family, stay a while, and enjoy all the excitement of the day long activities at this Annual Caswell County Classic Event. For more information contact the Caswell County Chamber of Commerce at 336-694-6106 or email at caswellchamber@esinc.net.
The Hoedown kicks off at 9:30 am Saturday with the Bartlett Yancey High School Band. As always, there will be plenty of BBQ, Stew and a variety of foods provided by over 20 local non-profit organizations. Over 80 Crafters register for booths. Admission and entertainment is free for the 2 day celebration. Saturday's schedule concludes with the Top 40 and Country musical groups and a street dance beginning at 6:30 pm and ending at sundown. Sunday's events begin at 1:00 pm and conclude at 6:00 pm. Musical entertainment and various competitions run non-stop during the two day celebration.
